Dr Tarryn Cawood is a Research Scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada. Over the past 10 years, she’s worked on deformed base metal deposits in South Africa, crustal-scale shear zones in the Alps and Argentina, and orogenic gold in California, before moving north to study critical metal-bearing pegmatites and massive sulphides. Tarryn specializes in the overlap between economic geology and structure – be it the structural and tectonic controls on where ore deposits may form, or the effects of deformation and metamorphism on pre-existing mineralization.
Tarryn and her colleagues have been investigating the distribution of various critical metals in volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits, and how deformation and metamorphism can affect this at the micro- to macro scale. This talk will give a summary of their ongoing research.
