Our Guest rockstar

Findlay Fraser

Findlay Fraser has over 15 years experience in structural geology and geological modelling to support multi-disciplinary studies, including resource geology, hydrogeology, tailings management, and with a strong specialization in supporting geotechnical studies. The projects he has worked on cover a wide geographic spread, including North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia, with a resulting broad range of tectonic and structural settings. He has worked on many different deposit types, including epithermal and mesothermal systems, porphyries, VMS, iron ore, coal, kimberlites, uranium, and industrial minerals.

Findlay graduated from the University of Leeds with a masters in structural geology in 2010, before moving to Western Australia to enter the mining industry. After a stint in exploration, he joined the structural geology team with Rio Tinto Iron Ore, and spent his time mapping in open pits across the Pilbara, geological modelling, and some time in production geology. This work was expressly to support geotechnical design work, and was the genesis of his career and specialization, structural geology for geotechnical design. He is an expert implicit modeller, being an earlier adopter of Leapfrog Geo and working directly with Seequent for two years, and is passionate about building geological and structural models that can be rapidly and easily updated, and serve as a single source of truth for all stakeholders in multidisciplinary studies. He believes strongly in upskilling industry and sharing knowledge, and has run over 80 courses introducing practical structural geology and geological modelling skills to industry and academia.
